Description

Perform set-up, tooling adjustments and changes and minor maintenance activities on CNC Equipment and Special built Process Equipment and Gauging. Tooling offsets and M and G code updates are a routine function of this position. This position will be involved with assisting engineering in new process development and process improvement activities. This position will be involved in machine and process equipment changeovers including first piece approvals as well as participating in resolution of quality issues as they arise. This position will be involved with assisting in diagnosing and resolving maintenance issues as well as performing preventative maintenance on machine on machines. The training for the position will include on the job training, work experience, and potential outside training. This position will also be required to run production at times to relieve machining machine operators for breaks.

Requirements

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • All duties and responsibilities of a Machine Operator plus the following:
  • Operational knowledge of all machine cells including start-up, product inspection, and operation of peripheral equipment.
  • Perform set-up and first piece approval procedure during the first and last hour of each shift. This is a time when OJT's (On The Job Training Modules) are being performed and documented.
  • Assist in the diagnosis and resolution of Quality issues as they arise and help determine short term and long-term corrective actions.
  • Perform and assist performing maintenance and preventative maintenance activities on equipment.
  • Relieve operators for breaks. Knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • All knowledge, skill and ability required for Machine Cell Operator.
    • Safe material handling, machine lock-out/tag-out procedure and understanding of safe and proper use of chains, slings, I-bolts and lifting hooks.
    • Ability to troubleshoot problems, and take prescribed corrective action to ensure that a quality part is being produced.
    • Ability to train new employees in the machining process.
    • Ability to understand and assist in implementing continuous process improvements.
    • Complete understanding of CNC codes/programs.
    • Understanding of Process Control Plans and PIM book.
    • Ability to obtain an Industrial Vehicle Certification
    • Knowledge and support of all safety programs. Education and/or Experience
      • High School Diploma or Equivalency (HSED or GED).
      • Understanding of Machine Tool operation.
      • Understanding of M and G code programming.
      • Understanding of basic machine maintenance. Physical Demands
        • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
        • Required to stand and walk continuously, bend, use hand or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
        • Required to handle parts weighing from 5 to 50 pounds.
        • Requires very repetitive upper extremity work in all tasks.
        • Required to frequently bend forward through partial range on CNC machines and through full range during packing of parts.
        • Good vision is required to inspect work.
        • Continuous mental and visual attention to operate machinery involving repetitive or diversified work which requires constant alertness or activity. Work Environment
          • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works
          • Near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and temperature extremes in the plant environment.
          • Noise level ranges from low (office environment) to moderate (general plant environment) to high (near machines).
