Summary: The Director of Student Counseling Services reports to the
Vice President for Student Affairs and is responsible for the
design, implementation, strategic planning, vision, and evaluation
of comprehensive mental health services for university students.
The Director leads a department of staff psychologists and mental
health practitioners who provide individual and group counseling,
crisis intervention, training, educational outreach programming,
and consultation to the University community regarding student
mental health issues. In addition, the Director also leads
division-wide projects including the provision of mental health
services at all university locations and partnerships with academic
and student affairs departments. The Director establishes and
maintains collaborative relationships with and provides
consultations to university students, faculty, staff, and other
constituent groups in support of student success. Job
Description:
- Develop and implement Counseling and Psychological Services
strategies that promote student success and enhance the overall
effectiveness of all students.
- Administer the hiring, training, and evaluation procedures and
provide direct supervision for the Counseling and Psychological
Services staff.
- Coordinate and manage the ProtoCall program for after-hours
emergency coverage.
- Develop and periodically review service priorities, and plan
and implement an integrated approach to service delivery.
Coordinate and implement ongoing case-staffing procedures and
related staff development and effectiveness programs.
- Prepare and administer the Counseling and Psychological
Services budget, allocating resources toward the most efficient
achievement of service priorities. Develop annual goals,
objectives, and outcome measures in support of these duties and
responsibilities.
- Coordinate Counseling and Psychological Services activities
with academic and student support services, articulating the
purposes, objectives, and resources of the area and cultivating
networks of persons and resources on and off-campus.
- Coordinate clinical training program of doctoral practicum
students and postdoctoral new professionals from clinical and
counseling psychology programs.
- Coordinate and maintain liaison relationships with key
University representatives to achieve effective collaboration on
matters of student behavior and crisis intervention, including
regular attendance and participation in the interdisciplinary
Behavioral Concerns Team.
- Design and administer appropriate ongoing methods for
evaluating the need, quality, and impact of direct counseling and
health services, outreach programming, and consultation
services.
- Initiate and assist in the conceptualization, preparation, and
submission of external funding proposals consistent with the goals
and purposes of the Counseling and Psychological Services.
- Provide leadership to ensure the utilization of a variety of
effective and best practice delivery systems and
methodologies.
- Develop strategic plan, goals, and outcomes, which support the
Student Affairs and University's strategic plan; conduct assessment
to evaluate program goals and outcomes.
- Serve as an active member of university committees and task
forces; advocate for students and recommend changes in policies and
procedures as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain print and electronic publications and
utilize appropriate online/electronic resources in support of
student success.
- Participate in professional development activities; stay
apprised of best practices, current policies, and legal/ethical
issues related to Counseling and Psychological Services.
- Assist with division-wide initiatives in support of student
success.
- Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Vice
President for Student Affairs. Minimal Qualifications: The
successful candidate must possess a doctoral degree in Clinical or
Counseling Psychology, active licensure in the State of Illinois,
and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience
in a college or university student counseling center. Demonstrated
successful experience in managing budgets and developing program
initiatives to campus communities and constituencies. Demonstrated
experience recruiting, managing, supervising, and evaluating
professional, clinical, and administrative staff. Demonstrated
success in collaboration with academic and student affairs in
providing consultation and resources. Active experience with
emergency management and/or behavioral/healthcare intervention
activities on a college campus. Skill in organizing and
administering a comprehensive program to meet the needs of a
diverse university community. Strong organizational skills and
experience coordinating and implementing counseling and
psychological services is a must. Exceptional interpersonal,
verbal, and written communication skills are needed. Experience in
an urban commuter college or university is preferred. (This
position requires a background check.) Salary: $106,000 Benefits:
